Glass with extra muscle

At Guardian, heavy float glass is defined as glass with a thickness greater than 6 mm (1/4"). When compared to the traditional 6 mm (1/4"), often used in architectural applications, our stouter heavy glass product offers some very distinct advantages.

Characteristics

Increased strength and less deflection.
In certain wind load areas, where glass surface optics are critical, annealed heavy float glass may be specified instead of heat-strengthened or tempered glass.
Can be used as an exterior pane in an insulating glass unit combined with a thinner interior pane to reduce the exterior distortion which normally occurs in insulating glass.

Availability

Clear and green
Tempered in all thicknesses
Heat-strengthened in glass thicknesses of 8 mm (5/16") and 10 mm (3/8")
Custom fabrication, i.e. hole drilling, edge grinding and beveling, decorative grooving
